“Institute of Forestry” AD Podgorica
provides expert support to Montenegro’s forestry sector
Decision on the establishment of the Institute from December 1952, received from the Secretariat for Economy of the People’s Republic of Montenegro, bearing the signature of Blažo Jovanović who at that time was the Prime Minister.
The Forest Management Bureau, now “Institute of Forestry” AD Podgorica, was established on 9 December 1952 by decision of the Secretariat for Economy of the Government of the People’s Republic of Montenegro, with the mandate:
- to conduct geodetic surveys of forest areas for the preparation of forest management plans
- to carry out revisions of forest management plans
- to conduct forest inventory assessments.
In 1984, the Bureau was transformed into the Work Organisation “Institute of Forestry and Wood Processing”, and in 1990 it was renamed the Social Enterprise “Institute of Forestry and Wood Processing”. In 1999, following ownership transformation (privatisation), it became “Institute of Forestry” AD Podgorica.
Today, the company operates under the same name, with more than one hundred shareholders in its ownership structure and without any state ownership stake.
In the previous period, our work has focused on the preparation of Forest Management Programmes for state forests in Montenegro. In addition, we have prepared Forest Management Plans for private forests, conducted inventories in the National Parks of Montenegro (2017), and carried out the National Forest Inventory of Montenegro (2011), using technologies and equipment aligned with modern forest management approaches and software solutions.
We have field vehicles and equipment for data collection in forests. We also utilise software solutions for the preparation of planning documentation, supported by many years of experience.
Our satisfied clients include the Directorate for Forest and Hunting Ground Management of Montenegro, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Ministry of Ecology, and others.
The annual scope of work includes the collection and processing of data across areas of 14,000 – 16,000 ha of forest, on average covering around four management units of state forests.
